Many healthcare professionals know that when it comes to helping patients experience lasting relief from various musculoskeletal conditions or injuries, the best approach is a non-invasive one. As more truths regarding how detrimental pharmaceuticals and surgical procedures truly are for the body long-term continue to be revealed, chiropractic care and other holistic treatments continue to rise in popularity. However, with so much misleading information available, it’s easy for patients to become easily swayed by misconceptions. Patients deserve to know the reality of chiropractic care, and its immense success treating the root causes of numerous types of degenerative disorders. You deserve to know that there is a better way to beat chronic pain and/or serious injuries than by simply undergoing another round of medication. To help shed light on these facts, our compassionate wellness professionals at Balanced Health & Wellness have put together a bit of information regarding what real research has to say about chiropractic care in comparison to other treatments.
As early as 2002-2005, esteemed medical journals, like the Annals of Internal Medicine and the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics, were already conducting in-depth controlled trials on the effectiveness of contrary therapy techniques, and discussing the impact of chiropractic care on patients suffering varying degrees of chronic pain. All in all, both found that “acute and chronic chiropractic patients experienced better outcomes in pain, functional disability, and patient satisfaction,” and that “manual therapy scored better than physical therapy on all outcome measures.”
Between 2012 and 2015, Spine published several pieces outlining statistics supporting chiropractic care, claiming their studies confirmed that “manual-thrust manipulation provides greater short-term reductions in self-reported disability and pain compared with usual medical care” with as much as 94% of those exposed to manual-thrust manipulation achieving a more than “30% reduction in pain compared with 69% of usual medical care.” Spine also compared the need for surgery in workers suffering back injuries, concluding that of all those who chose to seek chiropractic help for their pain first, only 1.5% eventually needed surgery compared to the 42.7% of those who chose to see a surgeon for their injury first.
Most recently (2018), the JAMA Open Network conducted “one of the largest comparative effectiveness trials between usual medical care and chiropractic care ever conducted.” This trial studied the use of chiropractic care in conjunction with typical medical care to treat lower back pain in more than 750 active-duty service members. Results ultimately proved that “chiropractic care combined with usual medical care for low back pain provides greater pain relief and a greater reduction in disability than medical care alone.”
